You can join in at any time and work at your own pace. Hey, life happens. So just relax, and enjoy the process. I want this Quilt Along to be fun! No pressure.
All of the cutting is done, so, it’s time to start piecing of the units. Yay! Now, the fun part!
I’ve published a Tutorial on Piecing With Diagonal Seams. In it, I have a few suggestions and links to other posts just in case you need a little help. I may have a method that you haven’t tried, yet. One of the methods I use for “Unmarked” sewing of diagonal seams, is also helpful when piecing straight, 1/4″ seams. Check them out.
When assembling the units, staying organized was key. I laid out the pieces to assemble in front of my machine. that way I could make sure that all of my pieces were in the right order. I started with a stack of the focus fabric rectangles on the left, and the pieced units on the right. on the right.

I set those stacks off to right. That way I could just pick one off the top of each stack and send them through the machine.

A pin near the top and bottom help keep the top layer from shifting. Also, notice that I’m using the lines that I marked on my sewing machine (as described in Less Marking, More Sewing) to help guide as I chain-pieced these sections.
I finger-pressed the seams open, then pressed them with an iron. Having this pieced section pressed and flat made adding the background rectangle on the right go more smoothly. I laid them out in the same manner as before. a stack of pieced units on the left, and a stack of background rectangles on the right.
