What is Christmas All About Anyway?

Every year in December, our church choir performs a Christmas Cantata. The music is always beautiful, reverent, uplifting, and a joy to hear.

This year’s cantata really struck a chord with me. (No pun intended.)

It is titled, “The Greatest Story Ever Told” by Dennis and Nan Allen.

It has the usual narration about how Joseph and a very “great with child even though she is a virgin” Mary traveled to Bethlehem, found no room available for the night in any inn and ended up in a stable where she gave birth to her firstborn, a son, and they named him Jesus.

One of the songs in this cantata spoke volumes about the whole reason Jesus came to this earth. It’s about the cross.

I’d like to share the words to this song with you and I pray that they will bless you today and through the coming year.

“It’s About the Cross”

It’s not just about the manger where the baby lay.

It’s not all about the angels who sang for Him that day.

It’s not all about the shepherds, or the bright and shining star.

It’s not all about the wise men who traveled from afar.

Chorus:

It’s about the cross. It’s about my sin.

It’s about how Jesus came to be born once so that we could be born again.

It’s about the stone that was rolled away,

so that you and I could have real life some day.

It’s about the cross.

It’s not just about the good things in this life I’ve done.

It’s not all about the treasures or the trophies that I’ve won.

It’s not about the righteousness that I find within.

It’s all about His precious blood that saved me from my sin!

Chorus:

It’s about the cross. It’s about my sin.

It’s about how Jesus came to be born once so that we could be born again.

It’s about the stone that was rolled away,

so that you and I could have real life some day.

It’s about the cross.

Bridge:

The beginning of the story is wonderful and great.

But it’s the ending that can save you and that’s why we celebrate!

Chorus:

It’s about the cross. It’s about my sin.

It’s about how Jesus came to be born once so that we could be born again.

It’s about God’s Son nailed to a tree.

It’s about how every drop of blood that flowed from Him when it should have been me.

It’s about the stone that was rolled away,

so that you and I could have real life some day.

so that you and I could have real life some day.

It’s about the cross!!!

May you have a wonderful Christmas Day and a blessed New Year!

Diane
